I saw an angel on the balcony
Every inch a victim of her time
A blessing for all seasons, ‘n’ yet
Her red lips spilled lilly white lies

Hard to tell from where I was standing
Impossible to judge that smile
Such cleverly crafted emotional doubt
Often cited as a beggar’s disguise

Angel on the balcony
Come down from your natural high
How was I supposed to think
She’d be earning those wings

Unless someone got hurt by those lies
It looked like she knew what she was doing
In the money
Come rain or come shine

Fearlessly free to surrender ‘n’ yet
Her dignity safe inside
She couldn’t help but make me wonder
